Dropping 5:12 off of my 5K personal best in one season was the highlight of my high school career. It taught me that if I set a goal, truly try my hardest, and follow a plan then it will get me to my end goal. I ran cross country for four years prior to my senior season and I hadn't found the drive needed to get me where I am currently. Once I found that drive, I was able to drop my 5K personal best from 22:03 to 16:51. I know that I have the potential to improve even more. I have proven to myself that dedication and perseverance pay off and has given me the ability to compete at the collegiate level. In addition to dedication and perseverance that I've been taught through running, the twelve years that I've been in boy scouts have helped me develop leadership and strong moral character that will benefit your program. I want to end my senior year with a track season that shows further growth and development and proves that I'm just getting started.
My interest in running started in the eighth grade when the soccer program at my school was replaced with cross country, so I joined. From eighth grade to junior year I looked up to my dad and brother and thought that I'd never excel as they did. I surprised myself at the end of my senior season when I beat my brother's 5K personal best. Throughout my four years in high school, I dislocated my right knee cap twice. After both times I recovered as fast as I could and got back into things without skipping a beat. An ideal college would be in Colorado or one of the surrounding states, be competitive for my running skill level and be at my academic level. In college, I want to run cross country, and if possible, also track. I want to run in college so I can grow and develop even more and reach my full potential.
