Qualifying for New Balance Nationals Outdoor in Javelin my sophomore year was definitely the high point of my sophomore year as a student-athlete. Although I didn't perform how I would have liked, I was still able to get some important experience under my belt as well as learning a valuable lesson: My performance would reflect how hard I worked. Even though I was ecstatic I qualified my first year doing the event, I realized that I just coasted through the year and didn't really train as hard as I needed to if I wanted to win. Ever since that meet, which I came in 43rd, I have been busting my butt working harder than ever because that meet helped me realize that I needed to re-focus my efforts and stay locked in on whatever goal I wanted to accomplish. That mindset was not only for Javelin but for life as well and it has shaped me to be a driven young man who is looking to do the same in college.
The same mindset applied in the classroom as well and it has helped me keep my grades up throughout high school. I have learned the values of leadership, teamwork, commitment, and sacrifice not only through athletics but from my parents, they have taught me those things ever since I was a little kid and I am now realizing how important they are in athletics and in life. I would love to attend a university that is a good fit for me athletically and academically. I believe I am talented enough to perform and eventually lead on a college team, as well as in the classroom. I believe my work ethic, personality, leadership, and commitment would make an immediate positive impact on your program as soon as I step on campus.
