Personal Statement

My goal is to participate in track and field at the collegiate level. At the end of my sophomore year in high school, I wanted to be good at shot put but I really didn't understand what it would take to reach that goal. I attended a throwing camp organized by Olympian Reese Hoffa, and I asked him what I needed to do to get better.  At the time I weighed about 160 pounds. He told me that I needed to get bigger if I ever wanted to be serious about throwing the shot put.

It was like a lightbulb went off in my head.

So I started working to get bigger.

Over the course of the next year I developed a serious work out routine and completely changed my diet.  The discipline I developed also helped me in the classroom -- I saw dramatic improvements in my grades during my junior year in high school. By the time my senior year started, I had put on almost fifty pounds of muscle. I did what Reese Hoffa told me -- I got bigger. But it was more than simply putting on weight -- I learned what it took to succeed. I grew stronger, more disciplined and more confident.

I know I still have a lot of potential for growth.  I am disciplined, dedicated and determined. Give me a chance, and I will prove that to you.
