I really enjoy the team spirit and brotherhood that goes along with competing, even in cross country and track. Cross country has taught me a lot about strength and perseverance in all areas of my life, and I feel like I have only scratched the surface of what my potential could be. I feel that competing at a higher level will help me reach my fullest maturity as an athlete, as a student and as a professional in whatever career I pursue.
I originally joined my high school cross country team as a freshman, to stay in shape for basketball. I began to realize I had potential as a runner and started to get serious about cross country as a Sophomore when I won a JV meet. My times have improved significantly every year. I improved by 1:33 my Sophomore year and again by 2:09 my Junior year. This year we have added strength training to our athletic program at school and I participated in the strength program all summer and am doing maintenance weight lifting in-season. My Junior year (2016), was my first year participating in track and I qualified for 3 events at state, with a first place in the 800m, and second in the 1600m and 3200m at our District meet. I also substituted in state for an injured runner in the 800m leg of the Medley Relay and we ran 1/100th of a second slower than the school record and took 4th overall.
I have also been taking honors and AP courses all through high school and maintaining good grades. I have been successful balancing my academics and athletics while participating in sports year round. I am a member of the National Honor Society and enjoy serving in my community and church on a regular basis. I am also involved in choir at school and church.
