My name is Brody Squires and I run track & field at Waubonsie Valley High School. I've been running track since the seventh grade and have fallen in love with the sport ever since. Since I've started I have constantly made improvements over the years. Starting from being a 15 foot long jumper to now being a 23+ long jumper it has taken a lot of hard work to get to where I am today. Over the last couple of years, I have dedicated my off season to extreme training at Acceleration Sports Performance. At Acceleration, I focus on speed and plyometric training to get the explosiveness that I need to become a great sprinter/jumper. I've continued to do Accelerations training along with summer camps and personal trainers. As a freshman, I was given the opportunity to go compete at the University of Illinois for a varsity meet. I placed 3rd in my section and went home with a bronze medal. Since COVID started our seasons were cut short my freshman and sophomore year. Now that my junior season finished, we finally had an official full season, and I was super excited to see the major improvements I've made from the past year and throughout my hard work and training.
This season I started off at a PR of 21'4 feet in the long jump but as I made my way into the outdoor season. I made multiple adjustments to my running technique and takeoff which helped me get to a 23'2.75 foot long jump by the end of the season. Almost everything I have learned to do for long jump was self taught and being seen as a self taught athlete I get many other athletes asking me for advice to help them with their jumps. But being the person I am I have no problem with helping competitors out because then it seeks for better competition. I have been in the top ten in Waubonsie Valley High School since my freshman year in the long jump. Currently, I have tied the school record that was set in 1996 and I can't wait to break the record in my upcoming senior year season!
Thank you very much for reading my profile. I look forward to speaking with you soon.
Sincerely,
Brody Squires
