I am excited about running track at the collegiate level. On my varsity high school team, I have participated each year on the varsity team. My focus has always been on basketball and soccer but recently realized I may have a better opportunity to run track or long jump in college. I have recently been working with a personal trainer twice a week to improve my vertical jump.
I'm very competitive. I hate losing and I'm willing to put in all of the necessary work to be successful on the track and in the classroom. I have a 3.5 GPA and I'm ranked in the top 1/3 of my class. Keep in mind I didn't speak English when I moved to the US in 5th grade. I was an English as a Second Language student through my Sophomore year.
In high school, I played varsity basketball for 2 years and participated in track. In basketball, I'm the guy that guards the other team's point guard. I am a turnover creating machine. In track, I am a current school record holder on the 4x200 and SMR relay teams.
In 2011 I was adopted by my parents after living the first 10 years of my live in my home country, Ethiopia. I had to learn a new family, language, culture, and make all new friends. I'm very adaptable to change and my life has been an incredible adventure. Here's an article the local newspaper did on me and my brother Jackson recently. https://www.thestarpress.com/story/sports/high-school/2019/10/07/ethiopia-selma-sofani-buck-family-wapahani-soccer-adoption/3897419002/
I feel like I'm a great teammate. I like to laugh, joke around, and be serious when I need to be. My coaches can attest to my competitive spirit, leadership, and play-making ability. I have developed great friendships with my teammates through my high school years and feel that it will continue into college.
I look forward to hearing from you!
