Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Kyriakos Pantostis and I started track and field on the 7th grade.
I have always been sports oriented and went through several sports like swimming, basketball and kick boxing where I acquired a black belt. However, the minute I tried T&F I knew this is what I wanted to follow. The sense of pushing throughout the race where no mistakes are forgiven and the intensity of it all excited me and made me give it my all both in training and races.
I started off as a long and mid distance runner participating in National Championships, (e.g., U16 Cross Country National Championship where I was 7th at 4km in 2021 and U16 Greek National Championship where i was 9th at 3km in 2022) but progressively I enjoyed shorter and more intense distances, finally finding my sweet spot at 400m after consulting with my coaches.
Unfortunately, I was unlucky enough to have some injuries that mostly kept me off training in 2023, thus not letting me participate in many races or fulfilling my true potential. Consequently, my PB times for 2023 were 53:33 at 400m and 2:06:32 at 800m.
When I fully recovered by March 2024, I took it even more warmly and seriously than before. With only a third of the track season remaining, I focussed only on the 400 meters and got my time much better than it was last season, achieving 51:37 thus managing to get into the Greek National team.
My goals this year are to finally expose my true potential in T&F in both 400m and 800m distances and to improve my academic performance which was also influenced by my injuries. The reasons why I think that I might be a good fit for your school is that I am a very passionate and hardworking person, and once you give me a chance to prove myself, I promise you that I will not let you down.
