Personal Statement
Let me introduce you to Ramiro Dates, a national of Barbados!
I'm seeking to gain an athletic scholarship at a university where I can grow and develop as an athlete, student and individual.
My collegiate goals and aspirations are to pursue an excellent academic experience, where I can gain the requisite knowledge, skills and experience in my chosen field of study, focusing on either Engineering or Sports Science or Sports Management.
In addition, I wish to be a part of an outstanding athletic team where I can grow and develop as a competitive 400 m and 800 m eventer. To achieve this, I wish to be partnered with coaching staff who wish to nurture my skills and abilities while I learn more about myself and my abilities.
Being immersed in a diverse culture through my international studies and athletic experience, would provide me with the skills to adapt to changing and diverse situations, allows me to become a better teammate and encourages me to think of others before myself and be empathetic.
Given that I am coachable, open-minded and willing to learn new things, makes me a quality candidate for any university track team. With astute training, high quality coaching & supporting athletic staff, I would progress to be an outstanding athlete not only strives for excellence in the classroom but will also ensure that my athletic training, translates to earning the most points for my university throughout competitions.
I separate myself from other recruits through my training ethic, hard work, dedication and commitment to whatever assignment I'm given whether it be in the classroom or on the track. With my enthusiasm for learning and improving, Coaches would be assured, that an investment in my development would not only be of benefit to me but to the university and overall track and field community.
In my last competitive season as Sophmore representing Combermere School, I achieved the Sprint Champion Award and the Divisional 2 Boy Champion after completing 1st places in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m with a 2nd place finish in the 1500m.
One of my greatest aims once awarded an athletic scholarship, is to give of my best and my all, so that opportunities for other Barbadians can be obtained through my efforts in both academics and athletics. Over the years, I've experienced some set backs with my progress, but throughout these experiences, I've learnt never to give up on my dream and goals, but to persevere diligently to achieve my goals while becoming mentally strong and learning to accept disappointments are a part of growth and development.
