Personal Statement
My name is Martin Segurola-Larrinaga, and I am currently in my 12th-grade year at the American International School of Johannesburg. I hold a Spanish passport. I am also currently completing my International Baccalaureate Diploma. I am interested in economics as my major in university and to be a contributing member of both your track and cross country teams.
My college goals are to improve my times in both track and cross-country events. I aspire to develop friendships and lasting memories with a strong community of runners and coaching staff. I come from a long history of athletes. My grandfather was a professional soccer player that competed in famous Spanish clubs such as Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and FC Sevilla. Not only that but he also played in first division French team Girondins de Burdeos and coached 2 years in real Sociedad. My father participated in the 1988 Seoul Olympics with the Spanish national team for rowing.
I have lived in Spain, Egypt, Mexico, and now South Africa. Although I am receiving an excellent education, my athletics comes with limitations. One of these limitations is that my school has only one season of Track and Cross-Country. During the off-season, I train with a local running club called the Dainfern Lions.
Because of the current situation of the lockdown in South Africa, I don’t have updated personal times but once the limitations are lifted and competitions commence, I will be the first one at the starting line.
