Personal Statement
Overall, I am passionate about sports and enjoy competition. My father used to play basketball and he infused the love of sports and playing basketball in me and my brothers, and I did play for my school team for the last 5 years.
I used to participate in school athletics each year competing against my school mates and students from other schools, and I used to win the high jump each time. Although most students were into soccer, basketball, and other team sports, high jump was always something that wowed everyone, especially when you jump high.
In most school competitions, I didn’t feel much the competition from others, but I certainly enjoyed competing against myself each time, thriving to bring out the best of me and the internal drive to beat myself each time I jumped. However, as I grew older, I started realizing the uniqueness of high jump. It is not only about jumping, it is about speed, training, persistence and technique. This is where I started feeling the urge to compete against more professional jumpers. But living in Dubai did not offer great opportunity to compete against others. Moreover, there was a lack of professional training that could help me to excel and achieve my potential. But that didn’t stop me and I started seeking to compete in any local competitions, even competing with older age groups.
With my current raw training, I was able to be the number 1 high jumper in UAE, broke the u20 indoor Lebanese record, and tied up with the Turkish champ in the Turkish Federation championship, my first international competition in February 2022. This has attracted the attention of the Lebanese federation as well as several local clubs which made me realize the potential and natural talent that I have.
Over the last 2 years, my jump was progressing from 6.4, 6.8 and lately I managed to jump 7ft in an inter-school competition, however I still need to train more to maintain and enhance my real potential. I strongly believe that I was born for this sport, being 6,1 tall and weighing only 135lbs. With the right training, I am confident that I can achieve great results. I have already started training more over the last period with a dedicated coach.
I am eager to compete internationally as well as taking my talent to the US during my university studies and compete in the NCAA. I believe that college sports will help me gain confidence and provide actual competition, which will benefit me when I compete internationally.
Putting sports aside, I believe that academics are really important, and I would like to pursue industrial/product design or architecture as a student athlete. My goal is to earn a bachelor and win the NCAA high jump championship. I learned that my natural jump can make me jump up to 7’4, however, technique is very important and with the help of coaches in the US I will be able to take my jumping to a much higher level and put my natural jump to use while graduating with a bachelor. I want to become a professional athlete, compete and smash records.
