- 2018 Highlights
Personal Statement
For any athlete winning is important, and for almost a full year every triple jump competition I went to, I came out on top. Winning various competitions such as Nationals, Scottish Schools and even British championships. I felt invincible and I felt like I didn’t need to work hard because I already had the ability to be the best. I was wrong. As soon as this became my mindset I began to slack and inevitably I began to lose.
i feel that this stage was the point that changed me as an athlete and as a person. For many athletes this would be enough to dishearten them and maybe even make them quit the sport entirely but it didn’t to me. For me, it made me realise that my attitude was wrong and it made me correct myself. I learned that to be a champion you have to work like a champion and that thinking I’m entitled to win and do well was the wrong attitude. This happening to me, brought back my; motivation, determination and ferocity. My fire was back and burning stronger than ever.
The next season after this, is where I am today. I am once again National champion and British champion. All because of the change in my mentality, not only did my performances improve but also my results in school. At the end of the year I finished with 2A’s and 3B’s out of 5 exams. I believe I am definitely capable of working hard academically and athletically and I feel that I will be a great recruit and leader to any team.
