Personal Statement

As an American-Brazilian, I have always loved sports. From a young age, playing with a ball, connecting with other kids and running around always brought me joy.

I didn't know, however, that I was a solid middle distance runner until just a few months ago.

Since I was 6 years old I have been focused mainly on club and school Soccer, and to a much lesser extent, school XC.

In March 2024, my school asked me to run the 800M at a U20 Hong Kong Division 1 track meet as there were no other viable options. To my and everyone's surprise, I took 1st place with a time of 1:59.28, beating the reigning Hong Kong U20 800M champ at the finish line. Until that meet, I'd never competitively run the 800M. In addition, I hadn't been running in any way apart from Soccer and one XC meet in December 2023.

On the back of this surprise win, I was invited to the Hong Kong elite U20 invitational track meet in May 2024, where I took 1st place again with a time of 1:59.56. Additionally, 2 weeks later I ran in a HK running club open trial for the 1500M and took home the win with a time of 4:08.69. This suggested to me and the school track coaches, that my middle-distance success wasn't a fluke. As a result, I am now seriously interested and dedicated to becoming the fastest 800M/middle distance runner I can be.

I've since talked in detail with my school track coaches, and the fastest men's Hong Kong 800M runner, all of whom think I can become much faster, with proper training, coaching, form, and nutrition. My goal is to eventually run the 800M under 1:50 and the 1500M under 3:50.

I believe I'm a committed, passionate athlete and person with a history of Sports Leadership and Teamwork. Over the years I've captained XC and Soccer teams. Beyond Sports and winning many awards in my school and in Hong Kong, I am a ‘’A’’ Student and a Student Leader. I have recently been elected by the full student/teacher body to be one of 4 'Head Students' in my senior year in my high school of 1200 students. In this role, I will have the ability to improve student life across all grades by implementing a number of school and local initiatives, some of which will involve sports. Furthermore, I am an ambassador and active volunteer for a local charity which aims to help disadvantaged people in Hong Kong.

In summary, I feel I am a well-rounded, dedicated student-athlete, who will strive to make a positive difference in any collegiate program.

I look forward to exploring the opportunities ahead.
