Personal Statement
My first taste of success came in 2015 at age 14 when I placed second in the 200 meters race at the National Interschool championship with no preparation. It was at that moment I realized I had natural talent and was born to run. Thereafter, I made the decision to become a track and field athlete and have had the opportunity to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the 2016 and 2017 Carifta Games in Grenada and Curacao respectively. In addition, I was captain of my school’s track and field team for two consecutive years. This experience undoubtedly helped to develop my collaborative and leadership skills.
Although track and field is a major part of my life, it only scratches the surface of who I am. Not only are my talents manifested on the track, they are also evident in my academic studies. Therefore I believe a sound education complements an extraordinary athlete and this underpins my drive to succeed academically. To this end, I have an interest in the Sciences and would like to pursue further studies in physics. Therefore, I am determined to be an exceptional individual both academically and athletically at a university that challenges me to excel beyond my potential.
I have developed a strong mindset focused on the principles of perseverance, commitment and dedication, and these attributes helped me to overcome a hamstring injury that prevented me from competing for an entire season. Nevertheless, I continued to strive to attain my goal of becoming a world class athlete. I am confident that with these values I am capable of exceeding your recruitment standard and becoming a crucial asset on your team.
