Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Jason Kim. I am a Korean-American student-athlete currently attending Yongsan International School of Seoul, playing track and field for YISS Guardians Track and Field. Last season, I broke the 100m, 4 by 100m, and two SMR relays (One for the ACSC championship and one for the KAIAC conference) school records as a freshman.
The college I would like to attend the most is Purdue University or the University of Southern California. Firstly, I would like to attend Purdue University majoring in its top-ranked aviation program, offering opportunities as a state of a art flying simulator. Adding on, I would also like to attend Purdue University because of its world-class athletics facilities such as the Boilermaker track and field complex, and with the coaches providing help for each and every athlete I’m confident that it would definitely make it an ideal environment for me to develop both academically and athletically.
Another university I am passionate about attending is the University of Southern California, where I plan to major in business. USC’s Marshall School of Business is highly regarded for its global business programs, which would provide substantial networking opportunities. Also being born in California, it would be a privilege to attend a school with such a strong track and field tradition of top-notch coaches and a helpful environment for athletes in every way.
Furthermore, one of my differences from other athletes is that I have done many other accomplishments outside of sports. For me being born into an Asian family was not an easy way compared to my friends who were mostly just watching TV shows and movies all night. My parents helped me to become much more mature at a such young age, and this allowed me to always maintain a decent GPA by focusing on my academics, and even involving myself to contribute in various volunteering offers such as teaching little kids English in the orphanage or contributing to the school volunteer club(HKE). Adding on, I am also playing various sports outside of track such as fencing where I won many medals and trophies, or even in basketball; which I played JV last season. Therefore, I strongly believe that my work ethic, athletic dedication, and academic focus make me a strong candidate for recruitment.
