Personal Statement
Hi,
My name is Hugo Ward and I currently live in Hong Kong where I am a Junior attending Hong Kong International School. Before moving to Hong Kong I lived in Sweden (my place of birth and where I am from), Germany and England. I started my running career in England in the first half of 6th grade when I realised my potential after a school wide mile run which I finished in a time of 6:13. After 6th grade I moved to Hong Kong and because of the move I did not run for a year until the end of 7th grade. In 8th grade I joined a triathlon club that was also very good as a running club as my school did not have a cross country or track and field team. For the duration of 7th and 8th grade I ran 2-3 times a week and started to run an additional session (each about 1-2 hours) every week the following year. In 9th grade I switched schools to the school I currently attend where I train with the cross country team during its season and track and field team during its season. Then in 10th grade I started to bike once a week to help with conditioning. Currently, I run 4 times a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and bike on Saturday as well. My sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays usually consist of intervals, ranging from 20x200m to 5x2000m and the sessions on Monday and Saturday are either technique or more focused on drills. In total I run about 20 miles week.
As I get older and leave high school next year I wish to continue to run in college. I aspire to maintain a well balanced life with academics and running being a priority. I believe that I am a good candidate for nearly any team as I have a lot more room for improvement meaning that I will be able to become significantly faster. By the end of high school, my goal is to run a 3:56-3:57 1500 meter. I have been assured by my coach, Andrew Wright that this is an attainable goal. This goal will be attainable because I am very hardworking, never satisfied with mediocrity, and I rarely miss training sessions.
Hope to hear from you,
Hugo
