Personal Statement

My aspiration is to obtain a full scholarship, at a great American university, where I can continue my athletic and academic pursuits to achieve the very best of my ability.  I have the drive and motivation which will enable me to accomplish high level outcomes.  I enjoy being part of a team, training and competing with my peers, setting and achieving my goals and targets, as well as acting as an example for others to follow.

I am studious, currently working hard and making good progress towards my GCSE's.  I decided to follow the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) set of subjects to help keep my academic options open for further study and future career.  I am in either the top or next to top set in all my school subjects.  I consistently obtain excellent feedback from my teachers for classroom input and commitment shown for the extra work I undertake in my own time.

I am one of the best, if not already the best, cross country and middle distance track runners at my school, city and region for my age group.  I currently hold the record for our city Park Run 5km course for under 11 and 11-15 age groups, smashing previous record times.

At the start of 2023 a foot injury caused me to miss the main cross country races as well as training sessions.  It took me over 6 months to fully recover from this and a further 3 months to get back to full fitness.  This impacted on my 2023 track season so my recorded times are slower than I'd set and expected for myself.  The injury problem, and a number of reoccurrences, highlight to me my commitment, in difficult moments it's important to maintain a positive attitude.

In 2021 I was one of six to be selected to compete for our region (Yorkshire and Humberside) in the London Mini Marathon, which a number of high profile athletes have competed in through their junior years.  This event inspired me, gave me new ideas and dreams about running such as competing competitively at a national level and in future at a world level for 5km and cross country.

I dream of life at a university, working as a team, pushing boundaries and exceeding as an athlete as well as academically.
