Personal Statement
Sport played a major role in my life since I was a little kid. I was always physically active and therefore my parents facilitated my sports career by enrolling me in different activities - ice hockey, tennis, and soccer among others. Finally, track&field matched my interest. I joined track&field club 6 years ago when my parents got me on try-outs for a local, but largest and most successful T&F club. Throughout years of training and competing at local, regional, and state level, I learned that without hard work and dedication no one, even the most talented individuals can't reach their full potential.
Currently, I am ranked 7th in 800 meters and 6th in 1500 meters in Croatia and recently I won 3rd place in the National 1500 meter race. Since the beginning of elementary school, I performed very well academically (GPA of 5.0) and was the top student in my class. I put many hours into formal and informal education because I think education is a key to any success. I enjoy learning new things and love even more adapting and using these learnings in real life – for example, applying biology and physics knowledge to understand body kinetics and metabolism work on 800m. In addition, as a senior member of my track & field club, I participate in organizational activities and help in the development of fresh runners
My goals for track & field in next year are to become one of the top 3 runners on 800 meters on the national level with a result below 1:53.00. Also, in parallel develop 400m run under 50 seconds and 1500m run under 4:02:00.
At the academic level, I want to pass the final high-school year with a great evaluation and prepare myself for college successfully.
My desire to study in the US is driven by the quality of educational programs available since my interest lies in pre-med and later on in med school programs. In addition, colleague programs in the US stimulate parallel athletic and academic development, which I very much would like to pursue.
I am very motivated to join the new t&f team and pursue achieving great results in both academic and athletic areas in the future.
