My name is Tobias Rice I’m an adopted Guatemalan I am a senior at Simon Kenton High School and have been running cross country for three years and Track for six years. I have a GPA of 3.88 and a 22 on the ACT. I decided to join the cross country team my 8th-grade year and I fell in love with it immediately. Being able to run for yourself but still have a team to compete with and support as well as support me is probably my favorite part of the sport. And with that, I've been able to run varsity since my sophomore year. Track is a different story though I started in sixth grade and didn’t know where I belonged so I was just put in sprints and seventh I tried out for hurdles and made it but I still didn't seem to like it. But then I was going to run distance but we didn’t have an eighth-grade season because of Covid. I ended up doing the 3200 my freshman year but now I mainly focus in the 800 and 1600. Even with all this progress, I have a major set with it. I have severe Osgood-Schlatter's in both of my knees. It's where my quadriceps muscles pull on the patellar tendon which, in turn, pulls on the tibial tubercle and it causes severe pain and inflammation there. I've had since I remember and I was in constant pain when I ran or played sports and I've been to physical therapy multiple times but the most recent attempt helped a little but I still push through every practice and race. As well cant wait to run at the college level.
