My name is Nolan Nixon and running is one of my favorite things to do. Although I haven't been running all my life, I have been running for around 6 years. At first running was a hobby and something I enjoyed doing but throughout my journey I got into racing and started to view running as a competitive sport. Running has always been fun for me and to this day remains one of my favorite things to do. The school I am from is a smaller school in Michigan so finding others to run with is sometimes a challenge and I rely on intrinsic motivation for most things running. As much as I am a runner, I am a leader as well. I was the captain of Cadillac's cross country team my junior year, 2022. Being a leader is something that has taught me a lot not just about others around me but myself as well. At first, I never viewed myself as a leader and just saw myself as another member of the team but at the end of the 2022 cross country season I realized how much my teammates looked up to me. I was never really their leader I was a friend who wanted to help in any way I could because everyone who runs knows how difficult it can be and I believe everyone should be able to enjoy running as I do.
I would make a great recruit for many reasons. As previously mentioned, I am a leader and a good friend to those around me. I'm motivated both athletically and academically which can be reflected through my running times and my 3.8 GPA. Academically while in college I would like to study business and finance to become a financial advisor. Athletically I am open to just about anything, right now I feel I am quite well balanced in regards to my footspeed and aerobic capacity. I would love to hear from as many coaches and people as possible to find a good college to fit me and I am open to any opportunities that present themselves including going to college out of state.
Just a small additional note, as of the 2022-2023 indoor track season I became injured. After hitting the national qualifying time in the 3200m, I attempted to push through pain on and off for 2 months until finally getting an MRI and discovering a bone bruise in my ankle was causing bone marrow edema meaning I have to miss the 2023 outdoor track season. I will continue to bike and use the elliptical to keep in shape and return to the next cross country and track seasons better than ever for some PR's. Some goals I have set for the 2023 cross country season are to break 15:30 in the 5k, place top 10 in the state meet, and win my regional for the second year in a row. My goals for the track season(s) are to break 2:00 in the 800m, break my school record in the 1600m with a time of 4:15, and finally in the 3200m break 9:20.
