Hello, my name is Lucas Lesher. As i am writing this, school just started for my senior year of high school at West Ottawa High School in Holland, Michigan. I have ran track since 6th grade, but have not touched a pole or disc until Freshman year. I was rarely in the weight room and wasnt very committed to anything, but luckily enough the Pole Vault/Throws coach reached out to me and told me I had potential to be really good. That is really all that I needed to take full interest into track and to start making myself better. I started going to the weight room more, having consistent practices through winter and spring, and liking the sport more and more. Since then, I now go to the gym almost every day, always getting stronger, and have progressed to a distance of 150 feet and 2 inches in the disc, and 13 feet in the Pole Vault. (and looking forward to progressing even more my senior year.) Although Discus and Pole Vault are my 2 main events, I also run the 200, 400, and have been practicing Javelin. One possibility i can see for myself is to keep improving the events I compete in right now, and also train to compete in decathlons. The only events I have not had practice in would be the Mile, Hurdles, and High jump, but I would be more than willing to put in the work for it. My goals as a college athlete would be to rise up to the competition and show people how hard I can work and how well I can perform. Academically, although I find myself drifting off every now and then, I always make sure my assignments are done with quality. I rarely turn in an assignment half done, because for me, I feel like I need to complete an assignment all the way, or i'll be missing things, I'll get a bad grade on it, or I wont get all the practice on that subject that I need to succeed. Another thing that I hear often from my teachers is how much they appreciate me because I am a leader in their class. I find myself very strong willed, and if I know something is not right, I find it easy to steer away from those situations. What makes me a good candidate for any college track team is that I am very team oriented. I believe that although there might be outstanding individual performances at a meet, there are no "superstars." Every single athletes small individual wins, or every inch further, higher, or longer, contributes to the teams overall success. Along with that, I love being social, I work as a waiter, consider myself as an extrovert, and am able to find new friends almost anywhere I go. I am always excited for meets, not only to try to crush my prs, but also because I get to support all my teammates, either by cheering on the last lap of the 3200, cheering all the relay runners in the 4x100, or convincing people to get on their feet and start hyping each other up. Overall, Academically, Socially, and physically, I would be the perfect candidate to work hard and help your entire college track program become better as a whole.
