I have been running for as long as I can remember, aspiring to be like the high school runners I idolized. Now being runner for track and cross country, I have been looking for a way to take my running to the next level, and looking for a collegiate track program is the way to do that.
I don't cut myself short in academics either. I hold an unweighted 4.0 grade point average, and have all my required foreign language credits which have led me to take extra classes past that limit, like French 3A. I've also taken a bit of extra math, as I am taking pre-calculus this year, and will dual enrolling at West Shore Community College and taking Calculus 1 and 2 my junior year. I put my all into running, but never so much that it sacrifices my academic standing.
In college, after my first four years, I intend to pursue a post-graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. Running track at the collegiate level would mean a lot of things for me. All the training I have done would have paid off, and it would give me a new level to look at. High School athletics are great and all, but at the college level you need to have a change of mindset as to the new level of expectations set in place.
I know that race results are a direct reflection of the work you put in outside of your sport. You can't expect yourself to be at your fullest potential athletically in the time frame of the first practice to the last. Conditioning outside your sport is essential to get into peak condition by the end of the season, which I do, and it shows when I get on the track. My work ethic is something I need not work on because I believe I have what it takes to compete in track at the college level.
