Personal Statement

Hello,

I am Cole Lewis and I currently attend Portage Central High School. I would love to run track and field in college because I have found a love and passion for the sport. I would describe myself to people who do not know me as a selfless, dedicated and resilient young man. My story compared to other student athletes is very different. I was weighing in at about 145 pounds during December of 2020 and then I decided that I wanted to turn things around. The reason I wanted to turn things around was for my Dad who was sitting in a hospital due to Covid-19. So instead of just praying nothing bad happened to him, I decided to start going to the gym so when he eventually got out of the hospital he would have a smile on his face. Leading up to that I gained 30 pounds of muscle and increased every time I had freshman year by over 4 seconds each in just 5 months of work. This passion that I got for track and field over this last 7 months is life changing. Now that I have seen what I am capable of in a 5 month span I have learned that my ceiling can keep rising the more work I put in. I also have been a lot more focused on school ever since sophomore year. When I was a freshmen I got cut from the freshman basketball team and it affected my grades . Then I turned it around and realized what I am capable of and now I have the motivation to be great. When I ran my 51.5 second 400 meter dash in front of over 2000 fans, I knew track would be for me. Any offer or letter is a true honor and I am willing to prove to any college that I would be a very good addition to a track and field roster at the collegiate level. I would be a great addition to your program if you want an athlete that  will work hard at any time from 6 am to 11 pm, will work hard to be great in class and will treat all coaches, trainers, other athletes and professors with respect. Thank you for reading this and learning about my story Cole Lewis.
