Jake Kluver '16 Recruiting Profile

First off, I just want to say that I live to run, and run to live, that is my personal mantra. I have high aspirations of myself in the collegiate setting and beyond that in life. I want to find a team with members that love to run just as much as I do, that love to get out there and completely exhaust themselves everyday, and that have goals similar to mine. When I was in my sophomore year of high school, I was talking to recruiters that were telling me I could for sure run Division 3, and possibly Division 2. I didn't like that, and I knew i could do better. I set off from that point always striving to work harder than anyone around me, regardless of the setting. I knew that to be number one, you have to train like you're number two. I put more summer miles in than ever before, and that really made my season a success. I learned that you have to really put the work in before the season starts if want to be successful at the end. I would consider myself to be a very goal oriented person, with values and character that have helped me achieve highly both in the classroom and in sports. I have always been a team player, and an active leader in anything I do. I realize that my captains helped me when I was younger, and I owe much of my success to those role models. For those reasons I am always trying to help out my younger teammates, and really trying to make their seasons more successful. I did not have great deal of natural talent when I started running back in eighth grade, but what I did have was a sickening work ethic that has brought me to where I am now. Hard work always beats out natural talent, and that's what I like about myself. I am a grinder, I am not a lungs and legs type of runner. I am the type of runner that will die out their on the road before he is outworked.
