My name is Ryan Lane. I started running track my sophomore year of high school. At first, I was only doing it to get in shape for football and have fun with my friends. However, my coach saw a lot of potential in me. My first year of track was the first year my school has had pole vault in decades. I always thought it was one of the coolest events, so, I decided to try it out. Even though my personal best way only 8'6", I fell in love with the event. As my junior season was coming up, I decided that this was going to be the season where I show how good I am. Staying late every time we practiced vaulting, having the best coach, and having amazing teammates all helped me achieve my goals. It started with a pb of 10', which lead to the school record at 11'6", which leat to winning the D-1 state championship at 12'6". At the New England Championships I finally vaulted my season goal of 13'3". My senior season goal is to make it to the New Balance National Championships.
I also take a lot of pride in my academics and community service. My older brother set the academic bar pretty high, as he attends an Ivy League university. He taught me the importance of academics. I followed in his footsteps and am a member of the Latin National Honor Society. I also am part of an organization called “Friends forever international”. My sophomore year we took a trip to Belfast, Ireland to participate in community events and service. It was a great experience and one I will never soon forget. I can’t wait to begin the next chapter of my life and thrive at the next level.
