I am both a dedicated student and a dedicated athlete. Academics will always come first for me, although I am a passionate distance runner. Running has helped me develop my character, my resolve, and my perspective on life, and I hope to continue running through the duration of my studies. In college, I hope to continue proving my abilities against those of my peers. The sport of running has taken me very far from where I began, and I feel that I would be sacrificing my abilities if I did not continue to run. I hope to run distances between 1500 and 5000 meters, where, as of now, I tend to be the strongest.
Academically, I hope to study either foreign language or military history, both of which I hope to make use of in a career in the military. I think distance runners in general tend to have a better work ethic and more of a desire to achieve in academics. Thus far, I have managed to successfully balance a very rigorous course load and an equally rigorous training regimen. In college I wish to continue this.
I consider myself a leader. I imagine that many kids my age consider themselves leaders as well, however I have the credentials to prove it. I am very close to receiving the rank of Eagle Scout in BSA, which I could not have accomplished without demonstrating exceptional leadership ability inside and outside of my troop. I have also held an officer's position in my village emergency services department for two years, which involves organizing my designated personnel at events and communicating information between my squad and my superiors.
