Starting my first year of track as a freshman, I was intimidated. Unsure of what to expect, I almost backed out before the season even started. Thankfully I stuck with it and soon realized that I was actually pretty fast. A whole two seasons went by and I was having a great time. I won some meets, lost some, but in the end I was just happy I competed and was especially happy if I set a new personal record. Sophomore year rolled around and I had gotten even better. Along with a great group of seniors, our relay team made it all the way to nationals, and we placed second in the EE 800 Medley. This was one of the greatest moments in my high school career.
However, during the summer after sophomore year, I went through some very hard times. I went through periods of sever depression and anxiety and it was hard to deal with. I started my indoor season hurt and sluggish. I was not doing too well in the season because of this. Soon, however, I able to overcome this challenge rather than let it hold onto me any longer. As amazing as nationals in my sophomore year was, I was more impressed with overcoming my greatest barrier. It made me into a better athlete and person because I work even harder to accomplish things and I do it with confidence. I have never been more excited to take on new challenges, starting with college!
