After being the only sophomore to qualify for the state championship in the 3200m, I started off my junior outdoor track season by placing 3rd at our NJAC conference meet. Three weeks later, I placed 3rd at my state sectional meet in the 3200m, falling short of the win in a tight final 100m finish. The following week I returned to the state meet for the second year, placing 7th in a personal best of 9:33 and just missing out on qualifying for the New Jersey Meet of Champions. I ended my junior outdoor season by placing 3rd at the Adidas Outdoor Track Nationals in the 1600m Sprint Medley Relay.
I am a very undeveloped athlete, running on average 30 miles per week throughout the year. I have yet to have the opportunity to get to the level I know I am capable of during this early stage. Recently, I had a solid cross country season, breaking my own school record in the 5K on two separate occasions. I placed 15th at my State Group 3 Championships while fighting through sickness, which qualified me for the New Jersey Meet of Champions. I ended my XC season by running a PR of 15:49.75 in the 5K at the Garden State Showcase #2. So far indoors, I have already broken our school record in the indoor 1600m three times, lowering it from 4:31 to 4:23. I am excited for what this next stage of indoor will bring as I prepare for the championship season in my strongest events.
