Christian Mercado '20 Recruiting Profile

My name is Christian Mercado and I am looking to be a competitive runner among a skilled collegiate team, under an experienced coach. I am currently striving to be a leader on my high school team, and would like to do the same when I enter a new level of running. When it comes to my background, I come from the Saratoga Springs High School Cross-Country and Track Team, who has had several NY State Champion titles as a team and has developed numerous highly competitive collegiate athletes throughout the years. The alumni from our school and their success has provided me with motivation to have a year round commitment with running. I set my priorities in order of importance being that school always comes first and for me maintaining a 4.0 GPA in the midst of running 6 days a week, is a challenge that I am able to complete day in and day out. Wanting to compete at the next level has been a goal of mine since I've ran all three seasons starting back in 9th grade, with Cross-Country being my first love all the way back in 7th grade. The key factor for my success at this point of my high school running career, is emphasizing the little components that allow a runner to have the highest potential for reward, and in my view that is a State Champion title with our team, and for me to compete as an individual at NXN this coming year. Getting my name out there is how I believe my goal of being a collegiate athlete will become a reality. The time will come, the choices I make from here on out are up to me.
