Dear Perspective Coach:
My name Joey Patchen-Mills. I am a 5'11" 145 pound 800/400m track athlete from Bismarck High School, set to graduate in 2020. I have been a three sport athlete (football 9-10, basketball 9, 10, 11, track 9, 10, 11 and cross country 11) in high school and have enjoyed everything these different sports have given me. I found my true passion, track, as a Freshman and have worked hard ever since to be the best I can be for not only myself but my teammates. I continue to play basketball and while I enjoyed football, I decided that as a junior I should do cross country to assist in pushing my body more for track endurance. This decision really paid off. My 800m time went from 2:07 to 2:00.94 and 400m went from 57 to 53:13. As a sophomore, I was the anchor leg of the regional championship 4X800 relay team, but have had some of the biggest accomplishments in my junior year. These accomplishments not only includes my current PRs in the 800m and 400m but also being on the 4X400 and 4X800 relay teams that have some of the top times in the state. These teams took first place in the Howard Wood Dakota Relay multi-state meet. I finished 3rd in the 800m regional finals and 15th in state finals this year and turned out PRs in my split times in the 4x400 (51.80) and 4X800 (1:59.40) at the state meet. My 4x800 team placed first in the state meet and my 4x400 team placed 2nd.
I am passionate about running but also passionate about being apart of a team and being a good person. I strive to make not only myself better, but also to make those around me better. I truly love to see people succeed. I have a strong work ethic, a great attitude, and I am an awesome teammate. These are the most consistent things all my coaches will tell you. I not only want to continue and get better in track but want to look towards my future in college. I strive in the classroom (+3.5 GPA) and understand how important an education is and that is why I want to become a teacher and a coach. Having an opportunity to compete in track at the college level is apart of my goal and I would love to join a team that shares my love for running and competing. I guarantee I will bring so much more than great running times to your program.
Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me.
