I initially joined Cross Country my freshman year of high school with my parents’ encouragement thinking it would be a great way to meet new, likeminded people as I transitioned into high school. I ran my first 5k in 22:59.82. In 2019, between my freshman and sophomore year of high school, I moved to Fargo, ND from Billings, MT. I was once again encouraged by my parents to join the Cross Country team at Sheyenne High School to help me transition into a new school. I made a lot of progress that year, shaving 2:55 minutes off my time between the last meet my freshman and sophmore years and qualifying for the Varsity boys state team. More importantly, I fell in love with the sport that year, not just the running side, but also the people and the team aspect of the sport. I have stuck with it ever since and loved every second of it. My current 5k PR is a 17:31 after many miles and hours of hard work and pushing myself not just physically but mentally as well. Distance running is just as much, if not more, a mental sport than it is a physical sport. My goals by season’s end this year are to go sub 17 and be top 20 in the Eastern Dakota Conference in Cross Country. I then plan to carry that momentum to get into the top 35 at State. In the Spring, I will be pushing myself to qualify for state track in the 1600m and 3200m. To make these goals, I am not only motivated as an individual but also motivated by my team’s goals. Helping the team pushes me every race to run my hardest. In college, I want to be part of a team that is encouraging, knowledgeable, and keeps that fire for running alive in me that sparked my sophomore year.
For the next chapter of my life and running career, I am seeking a college, a coach, a team, and program that will push me to be not only the best runner I can be, but also the best student and person I can be. In addition to running, I am very dedicated to my academics having a 4.0 weighted GPA. I believe this combination of dedication would make me an amazing student-athlete. You can see how far I have come in the last four years, and I am ready to show you how far I will go in the next four years.
