Personal Statement

Well I'll just type this like I'm talking to you in person. I'm Josh Meadows from Yellow Springs High School, but I live in Xenia, both of these are in Ohio. I started running both Track and Cross Country my 8th grade year. After having a great Track season that year I figured out that I really liked to run Track. That year we won our Conference Championships. I ran my Freshman year, but I didn't do anything really spectacular that year. Then before my Sophomore year I got injured while on a run, I rotated my right hip badly. I was injured all Cross Country season and most of Track season, but still managed to make it to Regionals on an all Senior 4x400m relay team. We fought our way to a 7th place finish after coming into Regionals ranked 14th. That year I was also 1st team All-Conference. Junior year was my real break out year for both sports, I managed my best time of 18:50 in Cross Country (5k run) and received the Sportsmanship Award from my Conference. Then in Track I ran pretty well all year, scoring in most of my events and making it to State Competition in the 4x200m relay. We finished 8th overall at State and it was a great feeling. That year I again earned 1st team All-Conference, and earned the Sportsmanship Award again. Also this year I was selected to be the men's team's captain, which was a great honor since I was picked over the Seniors who were running. My Senior year has been fine so far, but I'm training really hard for Track this year. In Cross Country I didn't have a great season, but it was fine and I was also one of the three captains on the men's team. This year I'm again captain of the men's team in track and hopefully I can again make it back to State, but this time in an individual event. What I'm looking for in a college is pretty simple really, I'm just looking for somewhere to go that is accredited in my major, which is Athletic Training, and has a Track team. When I say team, I mean TEAM, not just a bunch of individuals running for themselves. I'd like it to be friendly and fun, since that's what we're here for, to have fun. I'd also like somewhere rural to run instead of on paved roads, since it's not really good for the body. Religion classes are not the most thrilling thing to think about, but it doesn't really bother me. The financial need I have is big sadly. There are no funds saved up for me to go to college so all the money will come from loans, work-study, and what the college offers me, and maybe some independent scholarships. I'd just like to go to a nice school and be the first one in my family to do that. The goals I have athletically are to become a contributing and helpful member of the team, and hopeful help the team to win meets and awards. I also want to have fun and make some good friends too.
