I made my choice to run hurdles in the 7th grade. At that time, I was content with only winning my heat. In 8th grade, I started to realize that I really liked the hurdles and after I cut my steps from five to four I realized I was a little more competitive. Over the summer, I learned about 3 stepping and I spent my freshman year increasing my stamina which increased my confidence. After a decent freshman year, my parents took me to the state meet and that really sparked fire in me and I could see myself on the stage winning states. I had a really good season my sophomore year and had a good chance to make states, but when regionals came someone in the other lane spiked my hand and that caused me to panic which ultimately dashed my hopes for state. After that incident it made me train harder and pushed me forward. I was prepared my junior year to beat the best hurdler in the state and eventually win states. The first meet of my junior year was good and I felt confident about winning states, but the pandemic ruined my hopes again. However, I still have the same dream to win states and continue running in college.
These athletic hardships have taught me that things happen in life and you have to make adjustments in life to achieve your goals. I am picking up where I left off and even though I cannot change the past, I will keep pushing forward on my dream to win states, be highly competitive in college, and at some point go pro. I am confident that the proper college training will significantly elevate my skills and confirm my life motto of "No hurdle to high".
