My junior year of high school in 2023, I went out of for track. I didn’t know then what an amazing experience it would turn out to be. I ended up learning about leadership and how to have fun while doing it. I loved meeting all the new people and making new friends along the way.
During the first week of the season, I broke my elbow, and I thought being behind in practice would hinder my abilities. However, after 6 weeks I was cleared by the doctor, and I won every single meet I competed in, including state. These accomplishments helped me to also earn OSAA’s 1A Athlete of the Meet in the 2024 state championships and contributed to the state second place finish for the 1A Boys Track and Field Team. Being able to say I had a part in that was really eye opening. I realized my love for the sport. I realized I can do great things despite being held back by speedbumps like broken bones. This made me want to see how much further I can go.
I’d love to further my education and experience pursuing a degree in diesel technology. I feel like what I learned in track and field has inspired me to want to attend college. It makes me want to meet new friends and experience new things all while securing my future. I never really imagined that possible for me. However, the experiences my junior year has taught me that nothing is out of reach. With hard work and perseverance, anything is possible.
