I am currently an 11th grader at North Allegheny Senior High School. I began running track in 8th grade, at the time I was overweight and struggled to complete even our twenty minute "easy" runs. At the end of that season the only event I had raced was the 400m dash and my best time was a 62.95. After working hard during the off season I was able to come back my freshman year in the 1600m and run a 4:46.81. That was when I truly fell in love with running and the hard work that came with it. I saw that with running you got out of it the amount of work you put into it. I continued to train hard and switched from soccer to cross country that spring. During the 2019 cross country season I ran a pr of 17:36.14. Later that year, Covid-19 hit just before our first track meet. My team and I kept training through it in case we would get a chance to race. While that chance never came I believe that training helped us to improve for our races that were not even in that season. When we headed back into cross country season we were all in better shape than ever before, I was able to run a 5k in 16:39 and my team won states that year. So far this track season I have run a pr of 4:33.15 in the 1600m and will be running at the WPIAL individual finals on 5/19/21. Ultimately I have learned that if you put enough time and effort in you can overcome any obstacle in your way and find a path to success. Since middle school I have applied these ideas into my school work. When I was in middle school I was getting mediocre grades, but after putting in extra time and effort I was able to get straight A's through my 9th and 10th grade years and I am on track to get all A's again this year. I dream of running in college and no matter what level it ends up being at I will put in my best effort in both school and out on the track.
