Growing up in a small town, and attending an even smaller school, running has never been viewed as very prestigious; however, I feel most at home among my teammates and life-long friends that the sport has provided me with. I started running cross-county in sixth grade and I found a passion I had never experienced before. I found a family in running, as my teammates and I grew closer throughout the years and became more like siblings. The team dynamic helped me learn that I excel in encouraging others even when my personal performance is disappointing, leading to me serving two years as co-captain of our cross country team. My sophomore year of high school, we were given the opportunity to run track for the neighboring county through a co-op. Being thrust onto a new team I was quickly able to expand my “running family” on the first day of official practice and found the event that I excel at and enjoy most---the 400m. I feel that I can continue to grow at a college level, not only achieving faster times myself but also supporting my teammates and their achievements. I feel that my energy and work-ethic will allow me to make an immediate impact on your team, much as it did for my new team my sophomore year, and ultimately help to improve your entire program.
