Personal Statement

Athletes in their own right, no matter what sport they play, are very, hardworking individuals. Dedication is key to becoming a good athlete, but to become a great athlete passion, determination, and ambition must be present. My name is Kevin Rincon and I feel I have these attributes. I am currently attending Cathedral High School in El Paso, Tx. During my high school career, I have had the opportunity to participate in various sports, such as soccer, swimming, baseball, track and field, and football. Though I have done quite well in these competitions, I really enjoy the power of throwing the hammer and javelin, My best throws so far in the hammer was 138.4 and 190 for Javelin. Unfortunately, since these two particular events are not sanctioned in the State of Texas, competing in them is limited to the summer. I was also part of the football team starting as a defensive end while training and competing in high school and club swim teams. In addition to this, I will be receiving my Eagle Scout in December and will pursue a Palm after my Eagle is accomplished. I've held several leadership positions in Scouts and I am currently a co-captain for my swim team. I've competed in State Swimming Championships twice, once for UIL 1-5A and the second time for TAPPS; my goal is to qualify this year again and place in the top 3 of events. When I went to state for I-5A, my relay placed 13th, and for TAPPS I placed 5th in the 100yd butterfly. Although I??m still pursuing another swim state championship, I??ve never lost sight of my desire to excel in Javelin and the Hammer. One of the main reasons why I was inspired to throw javlin was because of my oldest sister, Francine. Her passion and success for the sport during her summer and college competitions drew me into the field as well. She threw for Michigan and the University of Texas at El Paso. Before I had watched her compete, I had no idea that javelin even existed. I began throwing the javelin 4 summers ago and I've made it to USATF Nationals three times. Out of those three times I placed 6th as a youth and 4th as an intermediate and 14th as a young man. Throwing hammer on the other hand was out of sheer curiosity. I started throwing hammer about 2 summers ago and I've made it to nationals once and placed 16th. As for life after High School, Im looking for a school that's in or close to the Southwest region, however I am open for schools across the nation. Im not to sure on what type of university or college I should attend as long as I can get the full experience of college life and receive the education that I need to move on to the next step in my life. I am not from a well off family, so I will need financial assistance. I refuse to be a non-productive member in society. That being said, my desired profession would either be a Physical Therapist or a Pharmacist. The only way to achieve professions that are desired are by setting goals. My most immediate goal after high school would mainly be to compete at college level track & field and keep a B to A average throughout my entire NCAA career. After under graduate school I will be taking my next steps that will bring me closer to being either a pharmacist or a physical therapist. It will be honor to compete with which ever school accepts me and I can ensure you that I will give 110% to every event that I am asked to compete in. Seeing as how you are very busy with other athletes the time that you have given up is greatly appreciated. I thank you with much gratitude and will be checking my NCSA profile daily with excitement looking to hear from you.
