Personal Statement

My goal is to attend a four year college in order to obtain a degree in Computer Science or Engineering.  I have found that my strength in school is math and science.  I have enjoyed carpentry and manufacturing engineering classes.  I will graduate with an advanced degree.

What makes me a good candidate for your team is that I am a hard worker and put forth all effort to not only work on my weaknesses and strengths as an individual athlete but what I can add to the team and what I can do to reach my goals.  I have made it a priority during school to have a good balance with homework and grades and athletic activities.  I started playing sports when I was 3 years old playing tball, then basketball and football.   My love for baseball grew and became my one sport year round along with travel ball starting in 7th grade.  Through middle and high school up until this past summer, I played school ball, travel and/or legion balI and have excelled in this sport.  My freshman and sophomore year, I received the starting pitcher award for my school team.  My freshman year, I moved up to pitch a couple of varsity baseball games and was moved up to join the team for conference play.

As I entered high school, I began indoor track as a second sport in the winter season and my love for it has only grown.  Sometimes, teetering in the spring of which I would prefer to do... baseball or track.  My 11th grade year, I asked to be a dual sport athlete for spring season with baseball as primary.  I would practice for baseball and have games through the week squeezing in a track practice before baseball practice when I could and then having track practice on Saturdays (which was more like 3 practices in one, per my coach).  I have found my love for track has grown which is why I am considering running track in college if the opportunity arises.

I am not sure what makes me different from other recruits, but I can say that I give 110% at all times.  I remain calm, focused, and don't let mistakes or disappointments get me down.  Instead, I make those circumstances make me work harder.  As a pitcher, you have to be level-headed, calm, thinking of all the scenarios of what might happen with the next pitch or play.  You have to be a leader for the team.  Your attitude is always present - so not letting it get in your head but making you focus and put your best effort forward and never letting the other team get to you.  I know that it is not all about me and recognition may not be individual but as a team.  I know that hard work pays off both in the classroom and on the field or track.  My attendance in both shows that is important to me.  I believe Team Work makes Dream Work.  Hard work pays off and I love the feeling of accomplishment but mostly seeing myself succeed or improve and/or even being a part of something and knowing that maybe I helped make that happen.  I believe in respect for the school, team, coaches, officials,  and sport.  I am proud to wear the uniform proudly to represent my school.  I remember a saying my first dixie league coach said to my team and parents... "coaches coach, parents parent, and players play".    Along with my parents, I can say that he made a big impact and influence in my life.

How I handle setbacks.... this past year I had two setbacks.  One was in indoor track in regions for the 55m hurdles.  In the finals, I clipped the last hurdle and took a bad roll and fall.  Fortunately, I still finished 2nd.  I had to pull myself from the 300m event which I worked hard to qualify for.  In states the following week, still dealing with the injury physically, I finished 9th in the prelims just missing placing 8th by four hundreds of a second.  Even though I had worked so hard, I knew my hard work had put me there and was beyond proud of my accomplishment.  The second setback was right before I was to compete with my hurdler teammates for nationals in which 3 days prior I broke a toe.  Knowing how excited both I and my teammates were to be able to participate in a once in a life time event - as two of our hurdlers were seniors, I worked with my coaches, trainer and orthopedic to be able to participate in the event.  I made it to Nationals and competed with my teammates and we finished 15th and broke our high school record from 2012.

I would welcome the opportunity to compete for your school.
