In the summer of 2017, two months before the start of my freshman year, I nervously walked across the soccer field in Greenlake, a neighborhood in Seattle, for the first summer practice of the high school season. I wasn’t even sure I wanted to run XC, but as I introduced myself to my new teammates, and they welcomed me, I knew I wanted to be part of “The Mob.”
As a freshman, I made Varsity XC, and was awarded “Best Freshman,” and I’ve been doing my best to shave time off my PR ever since. In the fall of my Junior year, I PR’d with a 16:51, was the #2 runner on our team, and helped our top seven runners qualify for Districts. At the end of the season, I was awarded “Most Improved” by our coach. Next year I hope to be a team captain and lead our top seven to State. I care about my own times, but the success of the whole team is just as important to me.
I have the physical build of a distance runner, so as a track athlete, I do best in longer distances. As a senior, I am determined to run a 16:10 in the 5K.
Beyond school and running, I play the viola, I’m involved in my church youth group, I work with kindergarteners in the Sunday School each week, and I have a job as a dishwasher at a nearby country club.
In college, I’m excited to major in Psychology, and in my career, I want to be a psychologist and work with teenagers. I’m also really excited to run in college and help build a community that's as great as The Mob has been.
