9/24/2018 Stewie's Story (10th Grade)
When I was reflecting on this past volleyball season recently, nothing beat the satisfying honor of winning the Gold Medal in Arizona. Every hour on the court, all the hard work and hustle was immediately forgotten as we stood on the stage and the announcer read, “Congratulations Team Rockstar 15’s for winning the USA Volleyball Boys Junior National Championships Open Division!”
I won’t ever forget the pride I felt for my teammates and our coaches. As we enter our 16’s division, our team is looking really good. With some changes in the lineup and the main crew returning, we hope to be positioned for a back to back Gold.
My goal this season is to start connecting with the college coaches, so I can introduce myself to them and see if there will be a roster opening in 2021 for a dedicated libero. I remain steadfast in my dream to be a Division 1 Volleyball player. With this goal in mind, I will continue to push myself to be a scholar athlete, continue to improve my performance on the court, perform community service and keep my eye on the tiger.
2017/2018 Season (9th Grade)
My name is Austin Stuard. I am a 9th grader at Mira Costa High School and I am on the frosh soph volleyball team. So far we are undefeated. I am a co-captain of the team and was selected because my coach said I was the most consistent player on the team (along with the other co-captain) and I rally and motivate the players. I communicate heavily on the court and help execute plays. I am playing my 3rd year of club, and I am a libero for Team Rockstar 15's. We are ranked #1 right now in the region. I believe in working hard in practice and making every practice count so I can be the best libero and defense specialist that I can be for our team. I think my coach will say I am a "baller" at game time and I am determined with intense focus. I listen and execute when my coach Alfee Reft gives me feedback on how to do my job better.
My ultimate goal is to play for a Division 1 university. I have a GPA of 3.9 right now and I put academics first and volleyball second. I still have a long way to go to reach my ultimate potential, and I will continue to work hard and focus on being a good student, teammate and high school and club player.
My other interests are surfing, beach volleyball and math, believe it or not! I have a group of really good friends and we spend most weekends and summers on the beach. I am pretty upbeat and like to make people laugh. I have supportive parents and they want to see my volleyball dreams come true as well. Thanks for reading my personal statement! Austin Stuard
