I have always loved playing sports, from basketball to competitive swimming, but my passion is volleyball. I’ve had a few significant moments in my volleyball journey that have shaped the competitive player I am today.
In 8th grade, I was sidelined by injuries I later realized were related to fast growth. I attended physical therapy and transitioned to strength and mobility training for over a year. I learned about my body, muscle groups, mobility, joint care, and the importance of recovery.
When quarantine hit I made a choice to start taking volleyball seriously. I put myself on a workout plan and started perfecting my craft with at-home drills and private lessons. I also played in many doubles beach tournaments which exposed me to the nuances of sand volleyball and the control and shots required for it.
My sophomore year, I decided to take an opportunity to play up an age group on Pulse Athletics 17-1s; the higher level of play that this team provided allowed me to significantly increase my volleyball IQ and touch on the ball. This is the year I transitioned from setting to being an OH. This is also the year I designed a vertical jump workout for myself and a friend, tracking results and tweaking our approach.
As a junior this year, I'm competing as an OH and DS on 949 17-1 Black, and I feel my intense work paying off. I have strengthened my skills and understanding of the game, and plan to keep improving on my volleyball journey.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing beach volleyball and basketball, trying new video games, listening to music, researching peak performance, and hanging out with friends. If the pandemic has taught me anything, it would be to value spending time with people and not waiting on pursuing my goals.
