My goal is to attend a college or university to pursue a Bachelor of Science Degree and earn a spot on your school’s volleyball team. There are no youth volleyball teams in my town and I have always played basketball and baseball. However, during my freshman year of high school, my gym teacher suggested I give volleyball a try since it has a similar skill set to basketball. I tried out for my high school team during the Spring of my Freshman year and made the Junior Varsity squad. A few weeks later, I was moved up as the only freshman on the Varsity team. I fell in love with volleyball that season. The game is fast paced and exciting and our team is like a family. Our volleyball team went on to win back-to-back Division Championships and placed second both years in the Central Connecticut Conference. This season, I’m hoping to help lead my team to a “3-peat” in the Division Championship and win the Central Connecticut Conference.
I've had a few exciting things happen recently: I was selected for the Southington High School Chapter of the NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY. I will be inducted during a ceremony on May 2nd, 2018. Additionally, I tried out for and was selected to play for the NEW ENGLAND REGION VOLLEYBALL ASSOCIATION - HIGH PERFORMANCE TEAM (NERVA-HP). We will train and then travel to the National tournament taking place in Tulsa, Oklahoma July 24-28, 2018 where we will compete with other U.S. and international teams.
Since that first volleyball tryout freshman year, I’ve played volleyball nearly year round. I play for Southington High, Husky Volleyball, NERVA-HP, and participate in as many camps and clinics as I can attend. I love putting “new tools in my toolbox.” I love competing at the highest level. Volleyball has taught me that in my sport, and in life, it’s not about the individual skills a player possesses, but about how that player uses those skills in concert with the other players and coaches on the team. I believe a team can be more than the sum of its individual players. Greatness can be achieved through synergy. I hope to earn a spot on your team and achieve great things together. Thank you for your consideration.
