Hello! My name is Roberto Henao and I am a 6' 4" Setter/Opposite from Miami, Florida. I attend Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, an all-boys college prep school, and currently play for Miami United Volleyball Club. I have been playing volleyball since the 5th grade and since then, I have always dreamed about playing high level, competitive volleyball. I started volleyball on my elementary school's volleyball team being the only boy. Then, starting in 6th grade, I moved to the school I am at today and played for the 7th grade team in 6th grade, the 8th grade team in 7th & 8th grade, JV (High School) in 7th & 8th, & Varisty from 8th to present day. I started playing club volleyball in the spring of 2018 (just turned 13 years old) for Miami United Volleyball Club. I played on their 14’s team in Spring 2018-Summer 2019 and then moved up to play 15s in the 2019-2020 club season. Then, after the summer of 2020, I decided to challenge myself at a higher level and join 352 Elite and play on their 16’s team. Then, in the Summer of 2021, I was chosen to represent my state and play for Team Florida as their Boys National Select starting setter. In the 2022 season, I decided to play for 352 Elite’s 17-2 team to get more playtime and be the leader of the team. Now, in the 2022-2023 club season, I decided go back to my roots and play for Miami United on their 18 Elite team. I made this decision so that I could fully experience my senior year and get practice time during the week instead of the weekend.
I consider myself an all-around player that is ready to play any position needed. Something that makes me unique from other volleyball recruits is that I put my relationship with my team before anything else. In my eyes, I believe that you cannot have a successful team without having a bond with your teammates. Another thing that makes me different compared to other recruits is that that no matter the situation, I try to be smart with the ball and know when and when not to smash a ball or find an open spot on the court. Finally, the last thing that makes me a great fit for your team is that I focus a lot on technique. Whenever in practice, I try to ask my coach to keep an eye on me to let me know what I'm doing right & wrong. Based on the coaches I've had throughout my career, they all see me as someone who listens to instructions the first time they are said and executes instructions. I am considered to be a fun & respectful teammate that works hard to get our team to the top.
Thank you for your time and I hope you have a blessed day!
