Hi! My name is Sean Groh, and thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement. My goals in college are to be on a volleyball team that has supportive teammates and an edge for winning. When I was younger I had played a wide variety of sports, but volleyball was the one sport that I always loved. Everyday, I strive to be the best teammate I can be; on and off the court. Whether it be through character, athletics, or academics, I want to work together with my peers to get goals accomplished. I think my passion for volleyball combined with my drive to achieve my aspirations makes me a good teammate, and working as a good teammate is just as important as winning a game. I strive for improvement in every aspect of my life, especially volleyball.
Outside of volleyball, I am a good student in the classroom, working to keep my GPA high, and putting academics as my top priority. I put the student before student-athlete, and it is something I've been doing my whole life. I believe my management of academics, volleyball, and my extracurriculars has been great, and I care about my work ethic deeply, making sure that everything I turn in is something I would be proud of. I've always enjoyed being busy, and I intend on carrying that value throughout my life.
Through volleyball I've learned what being a team player is, but it has also taught me how to be a better person. So while it may sound cliché to some, I realized that playing volleyball requires patience and perseverance if you don't succeed at first. Volleyball has also taught me that you cannot give up on yourself, no matter how hard the challenges are. These skills in sports help me through everyday activities, such as homework and big projects. Volleyball, for some people, may seem like a game you play in gym class. For me, however, I've learned so many life lessons and have made so many friends in this sport, and I hope to continue this journey after high school.
