Personal Statement
Dear Coach,
I am a 6ft 4in volleyball outside hitter from Greece, with five years of competitive experience in the sport. After graduating from Athens College High School in May 2024, my dream is to pursue excellence in both athletics and academics in college, as a Business and Economics major. Academics come first for me. Focused and determined to put 100% into all my homework assignments, projects, and tests, I set goals and study hard. It is also important to me to give back to my community; I passionately participate in many clubs and volunteer initiatives.
I discovered volleyball in September 2017 while searching to join a basketball team. I believe that everything happens for a reason. After my school’s volleyball coach saw talent in my playing, I quickly became the leader of my team. From that day on we excelled, finishing four times in second place of the public-school tournament. This year, we finished in second place in the Ministry of Education's national High School Championship.
As I gained skill at the sport, I received many offers from volleyball clubs, and decided that the best fit for me was AEK ATHENS, one of the biggest such organizations in Greece. I am proud to have transferred to the club this year, given our tremendous achievements: We finished in third place in the under-18 tournament, second place in the under-21 tournament and second place of the Greek National Tournament.
Since I first stepped on the court, I have aspired to play at the collegiate level. As an athlete I believe in myself. A hard worker, I never make excuses for myself. I also strive to play with integrity. Coaches find me am very responsive to their guidance. My goal is always to be one of the hardest working players for my team, and I devoted myself to delivering my all. Additionally, I am a team leader and try to set an example for my peers, on and off the court, offering positive motivation to all the players. Rather than hope for success, I persevere to earn it. My team is my family; we win together, lose together, train together, improve together, encourage, and celebrate each other. I feel blessed to have great coaching role models to not only help me develop my skills but also to become a better person.
My story with volleyball is long. The end is not even close. I have faith in whatever I do in life, and I make sure to learn from my mistakes. This quote reminds me that I have the power to make my dreams reality.
