Personal Statement
4 years ago, Volleyball became one of the most important aspects of my life. I quit playing soccer (9 years) Cricket (5 years) and Tennis (5 years) all to persue volleyball. I think these sports all helped set a great base for being able to play volleyball at a high level, as they helped develop my reaction time, overall volleyball iq, touch etc. Once I first started playing volleyball in a team, I aspired to play at a much higher level, as well as coaching athletes volleyball too. I strive to improve immensly at volleyball, and am willing to do what it takes.
I taught myself how to play outside hitter, as my high school teams coach quit, me and another player had to take on that role. We recently were able to attend the national tournament, which our school hasn't attended for decades. We also were able to compete in Premier div 1 competition during the season.
As an outside hitter, my biggest strength resides in hitting. I played tennis for 5 years prior to playing volleyball, so this helped me so much in learning to hit and serve, as I already had the base technique and plenty of power to go along with it. Recently my coaching and teamates have said they have seen major improvements in my game all around and I see that I have been improving at quite a fast rate.
Outside of playing volleyball, I have coached multiple different teams: Schools boys senior A team (My team), B team, Junior team, and girls A team. I also volunteered to help coach year 7-8s around my region, and am also coaching the schools year 7-8 team as part of my coaching course.
I want to attend a college where I can push myself to be a great player, and learn to be able to transfer my skills and experience into coachable knowledge so I can continue to help athletes improve not just their game, but their love for the sport too.
