Personal Statement
My name is Liam Yearwood, I am a 2028 libero from Barbados seeking an opportunity to play college volleyball. I have been playing volleyball for about 6 years now and I absolutely love it. I've been an all-round athlete for most of my life, but I have settled into volleyball being a varsity starter going into my 3rd season now. I'm also going into my 3rd season playing men's club volleyball.
In high school varsity I played L/DS in my first season, 2022, where we were finalists of the national knockout competition, I then played OH/L/S in my 2nd season and was selected to an U19 All-Star Team as libero. I am willing to play wherever the coach puts me in my upcoming season. We also have a freshman competition, where I played S/OH and captain in my first season and OH, vice captain, in my 2nd season, 2024, where we won the National championship and I was the MVP and Most Outstanding OH #1.
I was also selected as a reserve (L) for the national U19 team. I am currently at national trials for the U17 team competing in CAZOVA 2025.
In 2023, I played D3 men's club volleyball as L/DS. In 2024-2025 I will be playing men's D1 club for the first time, after I played libero for our D2 team in 2024, which was promoted following our 2nd place finish.
Along with volleyball, I attend the top-rated academic high school in Barbados, Queen's College Secondary, where I am also on the Chess Team. We have been national inter-school chess champions in 2023 and 2024. I was also a member of the national champion U14 Basketball team in 2023.
I am interested continuing my journey to be the best athlete, student and teammate I can be. I believe my willingness to learn, leadership, level-headedness, passion and determination, in addition to my athletic abilities in defence, passing, setting, agility, speed and fitness make me a strong fit for a college programme.
