Personal Statement
My name is Philip Turia, I live in Palmerston North, New Zealand. I am 18 years of age, I am currently standing at 6.4ft pushing towards 6.5ft and weigh 80kgs. I was originally trained as a middle hitter but more recently I have now been trained as a setter, so I am quite versatile.
The past three years I have made the National team, during two of those years I played as a starter middle hitter and this year I am trialing as a setter. Things I can offer your team is Leadership, Commitment and Dedication, I have captained my high school team for two years including this year therefore I know the qualities of a leader. I am very vocal on the court and lift the spirit of the team and maintain it at a high level. I am a very hard worker, a team player and very passionate about the game being the captain I have learned these qualities along with many more.
In 2015, I was named MVP of my High School team and this year most recently playing for Massey University at Club Nationals was named MVP from the New Zealand Defence Force. This year our National team has recently returned from the 19th South East Asia Games in Myanmar, although I wasn't a starter setter, I did gain a lot of court time during that tournament.
It has been my dream to play sports in college to further pursue my goals one of those being to play as a freshmen, gaining experience to play at the highest level of competition that I can and also to make an impact on your team.
