Personal Statement
I have played representative basketball since I was 10 and also competed at national level in athletics focusing on high jump and triple jump. Last year I started competitive volleyball and have really enjoy playing the game. I made the NSW State Catholic Schools team and was selected captain, played in the U19 Sydney Volleyball League and then in July last year was selected as a development player for the Sydney Warriors in the Australian Volleyball League (open age). As a development player I knew that training was like my game and as a result of hard training I was given the opportunity to play during the second half of the competition and even started a couple of games. The Australian Volleyball League is the highest league in Australia and the experience of training and playing with the best in Australia accelerated my development and gave me the desire to look for opportunities to further develop my volleyball. I believe that playing at the collegiate level will provide that opportunity while enabling me to further my education.
My conversion from basketball to volleyball has gone well because I have quick movement, strong sports knowledge, desire to learn and am competitive. My focus position in 2017 was centre hitter/blocker and this year I am focusing on building broader volleyball skills. I will play in both U19 and the Open men’s team in the Sydney Volleyball League and will trial for the State Schools team and U19 State team in April.
This year I am in my last year of high school and will continue to study hard. I will looking to advance my education at college/university focusing on economics and business studies.
I want to attend a college where I can advance my studies and push myself on the volleyball court. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college that enable me to play at the highest level of competition possible.
