Hello, my name is Sven Grimbergen and my goal is to reach a D1 level play of volleyball. Like many of my friends I was an athletic kid and always looked forward to my physical education classes and school ending where I could participate in other activities. I am a third culture kid which means I have an American/Dutch passport and was born and raised in Singapore. I arrived to America my Junior year of high school and its crazy to think Im now almost graduating. Growing up I was fortunate enough to attend a large wealthy private school and took advantage of their large selection of extracurricular activities. I joined a large selection of clubs from teaching Cambodian kids English online to helping the trash pickers in Indonesia raise money with the recycling products they made to our community. However sports were where my true passions lied, especially volleyball.
I am a person who has always wanted to do and know everything, and that applies to volleyball as well. My positions have ranged from being an outside hitter, substitute setter, and middle hitter throughout my time playing volleyball. This will be my second year playing club volleyball and I believe my progress in the sport has skyrocketed since joining club. Before this, I was on my school's varsity team as a sophomore in high school, enjoyed pick up games at the beach, and played community intramural games. In light of liking to know all aspects of the game I have also been an assisted coach and substitute coached multiple beginner volleyball teams. I am grateful for these experiences because it has made me more knowledgeable and skilled in all areas of the game as well as having been a player that can be relied on to get points and win the game.
If my peers, teachers, and coaches were to describe me I believe they would label me as a type of person who gets along with most groups of people. I am a leader when needed, coachable, and a person that understands the importance and values advice of teammates, teachers, and coaches. I want to be a business major with a minor in psychology/sociology because I believe in the art of giving back. I have had the opportunity to have wealth and been around a lot of people who have had it as well. On the flip side I have also been around some of the poorest people in this world and I want to learn how to help raise their level of wealth, build a team, and help them live a better life. I want to learn the art of business to carry on the wealth and eventually use it to build up communities who have not been given the same "ovarian lottery" as I have.
If you would accept me to play for your team and school, I believe I would bring in a driven and friendly energy, a different way of looking at the world, and hopefully somebody you can be proud of to have as part of your community and on your team.
