My name is Weston Lorenzo and I’m a junior at Aliso Niguel High School in Aliso Viejo, CA. I’ve been involved in sports as long as I can remember, playing baseball for both community and club teams as a top-level pitcher before joining a water polo program when I was 12. I continued to play baseball for several years, but eventually moved all of my focus to water polo as I began to fall in love with the sport, especially the speed, dynamics, and camaraderie of the game.
As a former pitcher, I found it natural to take on the role of goalie as a key position and team leader. In addition to my natural length and height, my pitching experience gave me the arm strength to throw long, accurate passes and to be the “general” in the pool. One of my passions is researching goalie techniques online and reviewing game film to improve my play every week. I pride myself on the ability to read opponents’ shots and to not only react quickly, but to know where the shot is going before the ball is released.
As a member of the high school water polo team, I was the starting goalie for the freshman/sophomore team that was undefeated in league play before quickly moving to the varsity team as a sophomore and junior.
Outside of water polo, I enjoy the outdoors, especially surfing, body boarding, and mountain biking. My interests also include photography, design, and digital architecture.
I’m very interested in playing water polo beyond high school and while I don’t have all of my future goals worked out, I’m hopeful that I’ll be led to the right place to continue my education and playing the sport I love.
